Choose a convenient preserve

Arbor Hills lies in western Plano; Oak Point is in eastern Plano. Begin with the location that makes the trip easiest from where you are. A nearby route you can revisit may be more useful than a larger outing that requires a long drive.

Choose the route before packing

Read the city’s current map and notices for trail surface, permitted uses, and closures. A natural-surface route and a paved route can call for different footwear and equipment. If you need accessibility information, contact the park operator about the specific path rather than relying on the preserve’s general description.

Build a repeatable outing

Keep the first walk modest and note the entry point, route, and anything you would change. Bring water and check weather before leaving. Avoid wet natural trails when the operator advises against use. On the next visit, repeat the route or add a small extension instead of starting from scratch.
